APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING MULTIMEDIA BROADCAST/MULTICAST SERVICE IN MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for providing an MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service) to a mobile terminal requiring the MBMS.

SOLUTION: The apparatus includes a plurality of user equipment (UEs) which request a desired MBMS and receive MBMS data provided in response to the request, a plurality of radio network controllers (RNCs) which transmit data related to the MBMS to UEs wirelessly connected thereto among the UEs that requested the service, and a plurality of SGSNs that are connected to each of the RNCs and control a procedure related to the MBMS of the UEs that requested the service. A default SGSN is individually designated for the MBMS and the default SGSN transmits MBMS data for the given MBMS to the UE that requested the given MBMS, through the RNCs.
