PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gear mechanism which is easily and economically manufactured and enhanced in the load resistant capacity for the power steering of a vehicle. SOLUTION: In the power steering connected to a steering column and equipped with a gear mechanism having a gear and an engagement gear, two transmission gears have teeth 4 and 5, and are engaged with each other via these teeth, and the motion and the power are transmitted from one gear to the other gear via effective profiles of tooth flanks 11 and 12. In order to provide the gear mechanism which is enhanced in the load resistance capacity and easily and economically manufactured, the effective profiles of the tooth flanks 11 and 12 of the gear and the engagement gear are manufactured so as to generate a linear contact part 3 at the heights h<SB>4</SB>and h<SB>5</SB>of the teeth 4 and 5 when the teeth 4 and 5 are engaged with each other.
