PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic photograph making apparatus capable of presenting an appropriate illumination environment in accordance with a user's standing position. SOLUTION: The automatic photograph making apparatus is provided with a photo studio 2 where a user U enters, and an apparatus body 4 for outputting the photographed user U's image as a photograph seal. The apparatus body 4 is provided with a camera for photographing the user U and a distance sensor 105 for detecting a distance from the camera 10 to the user U, and the photo studio 2 is provided with a movable flashing device 100 including a flash 101 for emitting flash light and a driving part 102 for moving the flash 101 to a prescribed position. In the movable flashing device 100, when a shutter button arranged in the apparatus body 4 is depressed, the flash 101 is moved to the prescribed position for presenting the appropriate illumination environment in accordance with the user U's position detected by the distance sensor 105 before a lapse of prescribed time nearly as long as several seconds, and after the lapse of prescribed time, the flash light is emitted from the flash 101 toward the user U.
