PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that the sequence of a recovery operation is complicated and a long time is required for recovery operation. SOLUTION: The recovery unit for ink jet recording head comprises ink wiping members 7A-7D provided in correspondence with respective ejection opening arrays 2A-2D, each consisting of a plurality of ink ejection openings, in order to clean respective ejection opening arrays 2A-2D by removing ink being discharged therefrom, and a cap means 6 provided on a recovery trough 5 in order to enclose the ejection opening surface 3 of a recording head 1 in a region on the outside of the ink wiping members 7A-7D.
