<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce wasteful cost by automatically selecting a sheet feed section optimal for copying a document image. <P>SOLUTION: A digital copying machine makes a decision whether a document image or a variable magnification image is confined within a fixed form paper or not by comparing the size of a document image, i.e. the detection results from a scanner 1, (or the size of a variable magnification image calculated based on that size) with the size of the fixed form paper sheet, and calculates the size of the document image or the variable magnification image rotated by 90° or 270° based on the detection results when it is not confined. Subsequently, a decision is made whether the rotated image is confined within the fixed form paper sheet or not by comparing the size of the rotated image with the size of the fixed form paper, and rotates the document image or the variable magnification image by 90° or 270° only when it is confined. When the document image, the variable magnification image, or the rotated image is confined within the fixed form paper sheet, a sheet feed cassette capable of feeding a fixed form paper sheet (sheet feed cassette for fixed form paper sheet) is selected preferentially. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
