<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for producing an optical fiber preform in which abrupt flame-up of a flame containing glass fine particles blown out from a burner is suppressed, the productivity of soot is improved by accelerated formation of the soot, and the amount of glass fine particles which adhere to the wall of a reaction vessel is reduced. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus is equipped with a reaction chamber 2 in which the soot 10 is formed, and has a reaction vessel 1 in which air is made to flow from one side to the other side of the reaction chamber in a horizontal direction, a core burner 7 for forming a core layer 11, a cladding burner 6 for forming a cladding layer 12 around the core layer 11, a lifting mechanism for lifting the soot 10 while rotating it so that the tip end part and the cylindrical part of the soot 10 are situated in a core forming area B and a cladding layer forming area B, respectively, and first to fourth horizontal baffles 19, 21, 23, 24 which are horizontally arranged so as to maintain the flow direction of air to be horizontal in the reaction chamber 2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
