<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distributed controller which enables an engineer to decide, in accordance with the operation specifications of a job, whether an output data value in an operation record message in HIS (Human Interface Station) is to be stored into a historical file means as an image notation of a label or in the historical file means as a digital value notation. <P>SOLUTION: The distributed controller has an engineering station and a human interface station which communicate through a control bus. The human interface station has a function for creating the operation recording message with respect to an operation of an operator and preserving it in the historical file means. The engineering station has a message system setting means for setting whether the image notation or the digital value notation is imparted to an output data value of the operation recording message.
