PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a high image quality through a simple arrangement of low cost by equalizing the behavior of speed variation of a carriage during a return print operation not inserted with a wait and a print operation being inserted with a wait. SOLUTION: The recorder comprises a recording head for forming an image on a recording medium, a carriage movable in the main scanning direction while holding the recording head, and a carrying means and a guide means for carrying and guiding the recording medium in the sub-scanning direction. When a wait of a specified time or longer is inserted, the recorder once goes over a start position and returns back at an overlap inverting position and begins scanning again from the start position.
