<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of determining whether an object produced is genuine or counterfeit in case where the image forming apparatus is used to make an counterfeit object. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus M has a cartridge (development unit 13, offset prevention liquid application roller 34) which contains consumable item for image formation and is freely attached/detached to/from the main body of the apparatus. The image forming apparatus forms an image by supplying ink or toner onto a recording medium in correspondence with an image signal.
