PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply producing a fluorine-containing cyclic compound in high selectivity. SOLUTION: The method for producing the fluorine-containing cyclic compound is characterized by bringing a cyclic compound represented by general formula (I) [X is an element and/or a substituent bound to carbon atom, provided that at least one of Xs is H; Y is selected from O and N-R<SP>2</SP>; R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each independently an alkyl, or an alkyl whose hydrogen atoms are partially or wholly fluorinated; (n) is an integer] into contact with a fluorine gas to replace at least a part of the hydrogen atoms bound to carbon atoms constituting the ring of the cyclic compound with fluorine atoms. Thereby, the fluorine-containing compound, such as 4, 5-difluoro-3-methyl-2-oxazolidinone or 4, 4'-difluoro-3-methyl-2-oxazolidinone, useful as a solvent, especially a solvent or an additive for electrolytes used for energy-storing devices such as lithium batteries, lithium ion batteries, electric double layer capacitors, or aluminum electrolysis capacitors, can be produced.
