PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-weight and easy-to-carry rail abrasion ruler with the size of the ruler miniaturized into a pocket size. SOLUTION: This ruler is characterized by being provided with a cut-out part 6 in a part of a plate-like member having a given thickness so as to surround about a half of the cross-section of the head part of a railway rail for railroads, being provided with a first reference part 8 contacting with a lower jaw part 7 of the rail head part and a second reference part 10 contacting with a side surface of the head part in this cut-out part of the rail, being provided with a gage head slidably sliding through a slide hole provided in an angular direction toward the center of the radius at a corner of the head part and a scale for measuring a travel of the gage head for measuring abrasion loss of the rail, being provided with a reference line for indicating magnification values for magnifying the shape and standard size of the head part of the rail, and being provided with a magnetic attraction device for fixing/holding this abrasion ruler for a railway rail.
