<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a CO removing catalyst which maintains such CO removing performance for a long period of time that while the amount of storage oxygen is retained, the rate of oxygen emission is suppressed and that CO is selectively removed without consuming hydrogen by oxidation. <P>SOLUTION: A noble metal such as Pt, Pd or Rh as an active metal is carried on an composite oxide containing cerium comprised by complexing, to cerium, a second element having a smaller ion radius than that of cerium ion and an electronegativity of 1.4 or more. Further, as necessary, the acid strength Ho of the composite metal oxide with the second element and a third element is made to be -5.6 or less by complexing the third element such as Zr or Ti to the composite oxide containing cerium. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
