<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purification method and a catalyst by which NOx can be decomposed at a high denitrification rate with methane as a reducing agent even in the presence of water vapor. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst is obtained by making palladium or platinum support to a metal oxide carrier, and decomposes nitrogen oxide with hydrocarbon as a reducing agent in an oxygen-surplus atmosphere under the condition where moisture is coexistent. The catalyst is obtained by using the complex salt of an ammine complex as a palladium precursor. As the complex salt of an ammine complex, preferably, a tetrachloroammonium salt or a tetraamminedichloro salt is used. The supported amount of palladium is preferably 0.01 to 0.1 wt.% to the carrier. The supported amount of platinum is preferably 5 to 200 wt.% to palladium. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
