PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required for recovering ink ejection by shortening the returning time of inner pressure of a head cap. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder comprises (a) an ink jet head 2 for recording on a recording medium by ejecting ink from a nozzle 13, (b) a head cap 5 being sucked to the ink jet head 2 and covering the nozzle 13, (c) a suction pump 7 for sucking ink from the nozzle 13 of the ink jet head 2 by bringing a negative pressure in the head cap 5, and (d) a section 8 for controlling the ink jet head 2, the head cap 5, and the suction pump 7 such that ink is ejected from the nozzle 13 to the ink jet head 2 for a specified time after starting suction of the suction pump 7 by sucking the head cap 5 to the ink jet head 2.
