PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote facility control system capable of selecting an electronic mail to be received and a password setting method of the remote facility control system. SOLUTION: The equipment control system 100 using electronic mail controls household facility 11 by an equipment controller 14 by transmitting the electronic mail of facility control to a facility adaptor 13 via the Internet 17 and an L mode gateway 15 including a mail server 16 by using a terminal 18. The mail server 16 tentatively registers a password in a password registration table when it is informed of the password from the terminal 18 when a state at which the password can be set is requested from the facility adaptor 13 and actually registers the tentatively registered password when actual registration is requested from the facility adaptor 13 in the case of tentative registration.
