PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide efficient basal metabolism and a method for improving lipid metabolism.

SOLUTION: The method for promoting the basal metabolism of a human comprises orally ingesting an aqueous solution containing 0.08-0.5 wt.% of nonpolymeric catechins in an amount of 400-2,000 mg expressed in terms of the nonpolymeric catechins per day. The method for promoting the lipid metabolism is provided.
