<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an example search device or the like suited for on documents described in various languages searching for appropriate examples. <P>SOLUTION: A target document input accepting part 702 accepts the input of a target document and a search character string input accepting part 703 accepts the input of search character strings. A search part 704 gives an extraction device 501 the target document as the input of a character string, and, for each of the locations where the search character string appears on the target document, gives a following position as the input of a start position so as to output as an example a partial character string from the location where it appears to the end position of the partial character string extracted. The extraction device 501 calculates an evaluation value log(i+1)×log(N<SB>i</SB>)×(1-1/C<SB>i</SB>) from the length i, the frequency Ni of appearance, and the number Ci of kinds of following characters of the partial character string which starts from a start position within the character string; when the evaluation value is increased as the length<SB>i</SB>is increased, the character string of that length is extracted as the partial character string. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
