<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide such a compact optical device serving as a compact color image display device that includes a light control device which has high light utilization efficiency, is easily controlled, is easily manufactured and has a high resolution, and that has a simple optical system and high resolution. <P>SOLUTION: A section of a diffraction grating is composed by arranging in parallel a plurality of optical elements 61 and 62 having a light reflection surface. The light control device is so composed that the diffraction angle is changed by changing the position of the predetermined optical element 62 in the one section by an electric control in the depth direction of the groove as the diffraction grating, and changing the grating interval by a multiple of integer (twice in the present case) by using such composition. Diffracted light is allowed to pass or intercepted at an aperture 13, and thus a one-dimensional or a two-dimensional image is displayed in which respective sections are used as pixels. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
