<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate which can optically compensate a liquid crystal cell stably without being affected by heat and moisture etc. and without causing a problem such as light leakage, and to provide a liquid crystal display device having excellent display quality obtained thereby. <P>SOLUTION: In the polarizing plate, protective films are stuck onto the both sides of a polarizer and an optically anisotropic layer formed from a liquid crystalline compound is disposed on one side protective film. In addition, the thickness of the protective film (substrate film) of the optically anisotropic layer side with respect to the polarizer is ≤80μm, the thickness of the protective film (opposite film) stuck on the surface of the opposite side with respect to a substrate film and the polarizer is ≥85μm and the ratio of thickness of the opposite film to the thickness of the substrate film is 1.2 to 5.0. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
