PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that a large-scale memory is needed to store PCM data and a long time is needed for CPU processing for displaying a musical sound waveform since the PCM data generated by decoding musical sound data compressed in MP3 format are enormously large in amount in a method of displaying the musical waveform on a monitor etc. SOLUTION: From an intermediate processing stage included in decoding processing of compressed data, specified time-series data which are much less in data amount than the PCM data are extracted, and the musical waveform is displayed based upon the data. Consequently, the capacity of the memory is reduced to lighten the processing load on a CPU, and the musical waveform is speedily and easily formed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
