PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain speech recognition at a high recognition ratio either in a cabin or indoors by a speech recognition apparatus provided as a speech recognizing function of an apparatus such as an information processing apparatus and a navigation apparatus. SOLUTION: A CPU 21 judges whether the apparatus is present in the cabin or indoors from the output of an acceleration sensor 11, the output of an angular velocity sensor 12, and the noise level of an input speech signal. When the apparatus is in the cabin, the CPU 21 regards a noise cancel characteristic of a noise canceler 33 as a noise cancel characteristic for use in the cabin and a speech recognition processing part 34 performs speech recognition processing by using a recognition database 36 for use in the cabin and a recognized object vocabulary dictionary 37 for use in the cabin. When the apparatus is present indoors, the CPU 21 regards the noise cancel characteristic of the noise canceler 33 as a noise cancel characteristic for outdoor use and the speech recognition processing part 34 performs speech recognition processing by using a recognition database 38 for indoor use and a recognized object vocabulary dictionary 39 for outdoor use.
