PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized and high-performance linear motor that does not restrict the movable range of a moving member and does not cause the deterioration of magnetic flux density. SOLUTION: The linear motor is provided with a stator 200 comprising two side plates 202, 203 that are formed of magnetic bodies and oppose each other, and a plurality of magnets 205 that are arranged at equal intervals on the internal surface of at least either of the side plates, so that an alternate field is formed in one direction of a space formed between the side plates; and the moving member 100A comprising a multiphase coil (moving member coil part 101) at least of which the part is accommodated in a space between the magnets 205, and a coil support 106. A magnetic pole position detector 107 that detects the relative position of the moving member 100A relative to the alternate field formed by the interlinkage of magnetic fluxes from the magnets 205 is arranged in the vicinity of the stator 200 and outside the space. More specifically, the magnetic pole position detector 107 is made adjacent to the stator 200 and contained in the coil support 106. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
