PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable compression ratio internal combustion engine using a seal structure of a rotary structure in which sealing property is improved. SOLUTION: The seal structure of an approximately cylindrical rotary structure arranged facing to a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, is equipped with a seal 25 for the peripheral direction arranged in a groove 22 provided along an axial direction on the surface of the rotary structure, a seal 26 for the axial direction arranged in a groove 23 provided along a circumferential direction, and a corner piece 27 arranged in the groove 24 provided at the inter section of the grooves. While forming the groove 24 deeper than the grooves 22, 23, the corner piece 27 reaches deeper than the grooves 22, 23 so as to cut off a communication of the groove 24 and the grooves 22, 23.
