PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve timing device for an engine capable of surely or easily returning an exhaust camshaft in an advanced angle direction while stopping the engine or when starting the engine. SOLUTION: An annular groove 100 of an oil path 63 for a delayed angle on the exhaust camshaft 6 side is provided close to an end part in a width direction on a bearing surface 82 of a cam cap 4 as compared with an annular groove 101 of an oil path 62 for an advanced angle. The annular groove 100 of the oil path 63 for the delayed angle is provided close to an end part on a phase variable mechanism 23 side on the bearing surface 82 of the cam cap 4. The annular groove 101 of the oil path 62 for the advanced angle is provided at almost the center in the width direction on the bearing surface 82 of the cam cap 4. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
