The invention relates to a vertical awning comprising an automatic device for the taut fixing thereof in the partially or totally extended position. The invention consists of a canvas part (1) comprising: (i) a first end which is fixed to a horizontal winding tube, said tube being rotation actuated and mounted in a structure (4) or wall; and (ii) a second end which is fixed to a load bar (5) which is disposed parallel to the aforementioned tube, the ends of said bar being guided by means of cam followers (12) in vertical guides (6) comprising automatic fixing/release devices (7). Each of said devices (7) comprises: a double converging/diverging funnel (8); a retaining element (9) which is disposed below the funnel and which can hold the follower (12) in position, maintaining the canvas part (1) under tension; a connecting guide (10) which conveys the follower (12) from the double funnel (8) towards said support element (9); and an out guide (11) which conveys the follower (12) from the support element (9) towards the double funnel (8).
