A vehicle rear view mirror comprises a base member 4 which has means whereby it may be attached to the vehicle body; a reflector 2 adjustably supported on the base 4 by means 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10; a protective shell-shaped cover 1 which has a pair of lips engaging a pair of undercut parallel longitudinal shoulders 11 on the base, so that the cover may be removed by a forward sliding movement thereof, rearward movement being prevented by an abutment 12 on the base member; and a screw 5 which secures the cover to the base member. The base member 4 has an upstanding slotted member 10 having a convex front and a concave rear face. A reflector support 3, to which is secured the reflector 2, bears against the rear face of the member 10 and a curved washer 8 bears against the front face. A pin 9, which is secured to the reflector support 3, extends through the slot and washer and has mounted coaxially on it a spring 6, which spring is retained by a nut 7 and serves to cause the reflector support 3 and washer 8 to exert a clamping action on the slotted member 10. The front and rear faces of the slotted member 10, the washer 8 and the support 3 may be cylindrical or part-spherical. The screw 5 passes through the base member 4 so that the head is accessible from the rear of the base member and engages in a threaded socket in the cover 1, the socket being disposed above the level of the screw head. |
