<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric opening and closing mechanism for a lid allowing even a person unable to use his/her hand freely to open and close the lid easily. <P>SOLUTION: The lid attached to a body so as to open and close it is opened, closed, and driven by a motor 8. A driving unit 5 for opening, closing, and driving the lid is stored in the body. A driven gear 6 rotated and driven by the driving unit 5 is attached to the lid. The driving unit 5 is provided with the motor 8 and a deceleration mechanism part 10 composed of a plurality of gears decelerating rotation of the motor 8 and transmitting it. A driving gear 27 meshing with the driven gear 6 in the deceleration mechanism part 10 is supported on a shaft 44 to turn integrally with a second worm wheel 26 in the deceleration mechanism part 10.
