PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for forming an imidazolidinethione compound useful as a non-metallic additive for a lubricant. SOLUTION: This method for producing the compound of formula (I) [one of bonds (a) and (b) is a single bond and the other is a double bond; one of B<SP>1</SP>and B<SP>2</SP>is -CHR<SP>5</SP>-CHR<SP>6</SP>-C(Y)ZR<SP>7</SP>, -CR<SP>10</SP>R<SP>11</SP>-NHR<SP>12</SP>or H; and B<SP>3</SP>is -C(W)NHR<SP>8</SP>or H] includes a process for adding one of compounds (i) CHR<SP>5</SP>=CHR<SP>6</SP>-C(Y)ZR<SP>7</SP>and (ii) R<SP>8</SP>N=C=W to an imidazolidinethione having a specific formula.
