PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering device, which returns an operating member in a non-held state to a straight-in steering position smoothly without making a driver feel something is amiss. SOLUTION: The electric power steering device comprises a mechanism which transmits an operation of the operating member to wheels with a changed steering angle of the operating member, and a motor which generates a steering auxiliary force. The steering device calculates and memorizes a steering characteristic during a period before the operating member becomes in the non-held state, and controls the motor so that the memorized steering characteristic is maintained after the operating member has been judged to be in the non-held state.
