PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder in which both high speed printing and high image quality printing are satisfied by switching a temperature regulation method depending on the print mode. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder comprises a recording head for ejecting ink, a means for heating ink in the recording head and ejecting ink based on a bubble generated in the ink by heating, a means for detecting temperature of the recording head, and a means for changing the temperature control (temperature regulation) method of the head by the heating means depending on the print mode. Temperature regulation is not performed or performed at a relatively low temperature in a high image quality print mode, and performed at a higher temperature in a high speed print mode. In the high speed print mode, temperature regulation of a head being used for printing is performed through heat conduction by preferably heating a head not used for printing.
