PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a learner to prepare an optimal word book which meets the learner's target of learning and level of competence and to effectively learn words using the word book. SOLUTION: The foreign language learning system is provided with: a reference dictionary database 1 in which words with importance imparted are registered; and a word book for learning generating section 4 which displays text data inputted in an input section 3 on a display section 2, retrieves words inputted in the input section and having importance corresponding to the learner's level of competence in the reference dictionary database, and generates a word book for learning by extracting words existing in the text out of the retrieved words. Further, the system is provided with: a learning training conducting section 5 for conducting word learning training based on the word book for learning; an acquisition history recording section 6 for recording words acquired by the learner together with related acquisition information; a word book for learning updating section 7 for updating the word book for learning based on the words recorded in the acquisition history recording section; and a word book for learning output section 8 for printing out the updated word book for learning.
