PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeder capable of preventing sheet jamming and reducing the cost, and an image forming apparatus having the same. SOLUTION: Sheets S are guided to a pressing unit between a carriage means 3 and a separation means 4 of a separation and feed unit which separates and feeds the sheets S fed by a sheet feed means 2, and an opening part 5a is formed in a guide member 5 to guide the sheets S separated one by one by the separation and feed unit to the downstream side of the separation and feed unit so that the carriage means 3 and the separation means 4 are pressed against each other. An extension portion 5b is provided on the width direction side orthogonal to the sheet carrying direction of the opening part 5a, and a projection part 6a which extends to the extension portion 5b of the opening part 5a and covers the extension portion 5b is provided on a guide member 6 which is provided on the downstream side of the guide member 5 to direct the sheet S guided by the guide member 5 downwardly.
