<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer belt unit which prevents image deterioration caused by vibration or sudden movement of an image carrier or a transfer belt unit, and to provide an image forming apparatus using the unit. <P>SOLUTION: A primary transfer device 3 as the transfer belt unit transfers toner images formed on photoreceptors 17Y, M, C, and K as image carriers onto an intermediate transfer belt 12 as an endless belt which is stretched by support rollers 10, 11, and 15 as support members and rotationally driven. In the primary transfer device 3, a guide member 13 having a fixed width is provided near one of widthwise ends of the intermediate transfer belt 12 and over the circumference of the surface of the belt 12. The intermediate transfer belt 12 is rotated while the guide member 13 is restricted in the widthwise position relative to the reference end face A of a black photoreceptor 17K and the reference end face B of a yellow photoreceptor 17Y as guide parts. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
