PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simply structured light controlling device in which light is controlled spatially and timely at a high speed, whose light is utilized at a high efficiency, whose control is easy, and whose manufacturing is easy and inexpensive. SOLUTION: In the light controlling device, optical elements 61 and 62 having a light reflection surface are arranged in parallel so as to compose a section of a diffraction grating. The position of the predetermined optical element 62 in the one section varies in the direction of the depth as of the diffraction grating by means of an electric control. The grating interval of the diffraction grating is varied by a multiple of integer (2 times in the present case) by using such composition, thus the diffraction angle of a predetermined diffraction order is varied.
