Use of latent pigments for long-lasting dyeing, compositions containing these pigments and processes for using them

Soluble latent pigments that can be chemically, thermally or photochemically converted to water-insoluble pigments in keratinic fibers are used to dye keratinic fibers. Independent claims are also included for: (1) dyeing keratinic fibers by applying a composition comprising one or more latent pigments as above, allowing the composition to act for 1-60 minutes, optionally rinsing the fibers, and thermally, chemically or photochemically treating the latent pigment(s); (2) cosmetic composition comprising at least one latent pigment as above and at least one compound selected from mono- or polyhydric alcohols, acidifying agents and surfactants; (3) kit for dyeing keratinic fibers, comprising one compartment containing at least one latent pigment as above and another compartment containing a chemical agent capable of converting the latent pigment to a sparingly soluble compound.
