The portable lifting device (1) includes a movable support carriage (3), a lifting platform (4), lifting equipment, and a stabilizing unit formed by at least one rigid pivoting member (24) which is hinge-connected to the support carriage by one end section and to the lifting platform by the opposite end section in such a way that a platform movement having a vertical alignment component with the support carriage stationary is constantly coupled with a defined horizontal movement. The lifting platform has a basically rectangular frame (23) upon which is fastened two haulage cables or chains (19-22) on opposite rectangular sides.
