The process involves applying a coating material (2) to a substrate (1) and exposing the material to an inert gas atmosphere (3) by a gas concentration section (5). The coating material is irradiated with ultraviolet (UV) radiation (4) from a light source (6). The light source and concentration section are adapted to contour (17) of the substrate. The distance of the gas section from the substrate (A) is regulated. An Independent claim is also included for an apparatus for curing coating material.
