<p>In a waste recycling system, each waste container is removably received in a respective container receiving means 12 and carries information enabling the source from which it originates to be identified. Each container may be a disposable plastics bag coloured or written on to indicate the type of waste material it is for. They each carry information in a form such as a bar code or magnetic strip enabling the source of the waste therein to be identified and recorded when collected for recycling. This may enable the source to be rewarded to encourage recycling. As shown, four receiving means 12 (shown in plan view) are separated by two crossed linear strips 11 within an opening 10 in a lid 7 of a housing, the opening 10 being closeable by a hinged cover 9. The housing or its lid 7 may carry electronic means 8 capable of reading information stored on a first magnetic strip and transferring it to a second magnetic strip on a container in a receiving means 12.
