The method involves directing the laser beam (12) onto a matt translucent material (18) so that a light point (20) is formed and laser beams emanate from regions of the light point that produce a laser beam with directionally independent uniform intensity by superimposition and/or mixing. Directionally independent uniform intensity is achieved in an angular range less than or equal to +/- 15 degrees, especially +/- 6 degrees. An independent claim is also included for the following: (a) an arrangement for forming an irradiation field for light transition time measurement generated by a laser, especially a pulsed laser diode.
