Test head for a gear wheel testing device has a carriage (1) on which a pattern wheel is placed in a support position (11) so that it rotates. The carriage is moved to bring the pattern wheel into contact with a test wheel, to which end the carriage has two parts (4, 5) that move relative to each other during changing of the position of the pattern wheel. The two parts move in a common carriage guide (2).
