PURPOSE: A method for offering a data transfer service on a computer network using a user defined emoticon image and a computer-readable recording medium recording an application program for realizing the same are provided to freely generate/use the user defined emoticon during various kinds of data transfer services. CONSTITUTION: A data transfer application program captures an image of a display screen in a capture area selected by a user and stores the captured image in a storage of a user computer system as the user defined emoticon image(S256). The stored user defined emoticon image is displayed on a server or the computer system of an appointed part by transferring only the user defined emoticon image or together with the text/image data selected from the user.
