When a vehicle is stationary, a brake system is switched into a mode for delaying reduction in brake pressure. A first pedal value (dp/dt) that characterizes the speed of brake pedal release is detected if the vehicle comes to a stop. The mode for delaying reduction in brake pressure is deactivated by relying on the first pedal value. An Independent claim is also included for a device for preventing a motor vehicle from rolling backwards.
