The method involves a repetitive process in which a cross-wire is fed in and welded to a number of longitudinal wires by feeding the cross-wire to a standby position with sufficient accuracy for welding to longitudinal wires, gripping the cross-wire with a gripper (11) of a transport device, transporting it to a desired position (9) in the welding machine and setting it in the desired position with sufficient accuracy for welding. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a grid welding system for manufacturing wire grids.
