The device has a conveyor to move a newspaper stack etc. to a station, where a strap (14) is fastened around it. A strap guide channel consists of corner deflectors (30), further channel sections, which only support the strap on its outer side, and twisting parts (23,24,25) between deflectors and channel sections. The twisting parts apply to the strap, a twist of approx. 40-60[deg] e.g. 45[deg], around its longitudinal axis. Each part has a slot channel open to the paper stack, with intake slot and an outlet slot offset at 45[deg] relative to it.
