The normal to the sensor surface is at an angle to the normal to the upper surface of the substrate. The coupling component allows the conductivity of the channel to be affected by signals from the cells, using capacitive coupling. An Independent claim is included for a method for detecting electrical signals from biological cells using the sensor system
