A person recovering from a hip replacement operation should not bent over during the first six weeks, resulting in being dependent on other people in almost all areas of life. Putting on shoes is particularly difficult. A shoehorn with a long handle could be worn on a collar but is not comfortable to carry. The new design of crutches is provided with specifically shaped arm support elements (1). The outer ends of those elements (3, 4) are formed in order to serve as a shoe lift with the shaft of the crutch acting as a handle.
