The present invention relates to a method to enhance the immune response of swine against against pathogenic viral infections, bacterial infections, or both, by administering an effective dose of recombinant porcine interleukin-12 (rpIL-12) after exposure to an Arteriviridae family virus or during a pathogenic viral or bacterial infection, and a veterinary composition comprising of rpIL-12 and one or more physiologically acceptable carriers.
