摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for growing a microorganism for forming a high-concentration omega-3-based highly unsaturated fatty acid. SOLUTION: A microorganism containing a high-concentration omega-3-based highly unsaturated fatty acid is obtained by growing the microorganism in a fermentation medium containing a non-chloride sodium salt, especially sodium sulfate. The microorganism is selected from microorganisms of the order Thraustochytriales and has the following characteristics, namely (a) the microorganism can be subjected to heterotrophic growth, (b) the microorganism has a high content of omega-3-based highly unsaturated fatty acid, (c) the microorganism can be grown at >=30 deg.C and (d) the microorganism has euryhaline (able to grow over a wide range of salinities, but especially at low salinities).
