PURPOSE: A microwave oven and a control method thereof are provided to cut down manufacturing cost by reducing the number of detectors for sensing a heater with setting the initial position through a single micro-switch, and to prevent failure in cooking from wrong connection by connecting the single micro-switch to the electric wire. CONSTITUTION: A microwave oven includes electric heaters turned and installed in a cooking chamber; a heater driving unit rotating the heater; and a heater position detecting unit sensing rotational position of the electric heater. The heater driving unit has a heater motor(40), a gear(41) combined with the shaft of the heater motor with rotating, gears(42,43) receiving power of the motor through the gear, and links(44,45) connecting the gears and rotating members(33). A micro-switch(50) detects the rotational position of the heater, and connects to an electric wire(51) to transmit the detecting signal to the controller.
