PURPOSE: A laser diode for an optical pickup is provided to save expense and enhance the reliability for the device operation by restricting a failure due to the ESD(ElectroStatic Discharge) generated in a process for manufacturing/distributing the laser diode, and the process using the laser diode after the installation of the laser diode. CONSTITUTION: Active terminals(21,22) electrically connected to a laser diode driver IC and a ground terminal(23) are projected. The ground terminal is longer than the active terminals. Owing to the ground terminal projected longer than other terminals, the ESD generated near the laser diode(20) is transferred to the ground terminal rather than the active terminals. Thus, the failure of the laser diode is restricted.
